Giving X the Axe
I'm not sure if any of you noticed, but a few months ago we stopped publishing our jobs to the X website, formerly known as Twitter. Over the years I have engaged with X for the simplicity of displaying a quick link to each new job post on EstateJobs. It is a very nice information flow without much effort. We use an automated service that relays our new listings to a few locations so that our followers can have real-time updates from the job board.
Unfortunately the takeover and rebrand of Twitter brought some changes to the operation and pricing of our system and we kept having to pay more and more to pass the data through to our company page. I'm totally ok with spending for something of value, but the numbers weren't adding up based on our user engagement. This was the first red flag that caused us to review X as one of our media tools. Then came the fun part that made the decision an no-brainer! About 2 months ago we received a notice via email that our account had been suspended for violating the terms of use on the X platform. Of course I thought it was a mistake, but they do not give any further information about what was done wrong, when it occurred, no previous warnings, or quite frankly any pertinent information at all. On top of the vague declaration, they took down our entire post history and the account showed a message about being suspended! Well that tipped the scale and I decided to just close the account, but I wanted a resolution first. So what could we do about it? Thankfully there is a very simple appeal form we could submit online and ask for a review of their decision. However, there is no timeframe for them to get back to you and zero updates along the way. Ultimately our account was unfrozen after about 3 weeks with no explanation, no notification, and no reason for the mistake at all.
Overall I think they did us a favor. X has become worthless to our business, and the few times I've scrolled through the feed made me feel sick. All I see is hateful, violent, mostly anonymous content getting pushed at me even though I used to have twitter tuned for great business content and following our many agency clients' posts.
Oh well, no loss for us really, just thought I should give a bit of context if anyone was wondering what happened to the X/twitter feed.
