Director of Hospitality

Private Family Office | New York City

About the Role

A private family office is seeking an experienced Director of Hospitality to oversee the service, presentation, and day-to-day hospitality experience across the family’s private residences.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong luxury hospitality or private-service background who takes genuine pride in exceptional standards and enjoys being highly hands-on. The successful candidate will work closely with the family office and household teams to ensure the residences are consistently maintained, prepared, and presented to an exceptional standard.

This is a full-time, office-based position in New York City, with the flexibility to work remotely/from home one day per week.

The family and family office are looking for someone who is high-energy, highly organised, exceptionally detail-oriented, and genuinely passionate about service. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who is looking to build a lasting relationship with a family and become an integral part of their operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall ownership of hospitality standards across the family’s private residences.
  • Ensure homes are consistently presented to an exceptional standard, with close attention to cleanliness, presentation, floral, linens, table settings, guest rooms, pantries, entertaining spaces, and overall atmosphere.
  • Establish and maintain clear service standards, procedures, checklists, and operating routines.
  • Work closely with household and family office teams to ensure each residence is fully prepared ahead of family and guest arrivals.
  • Lead, mentor, train, and develop household service staff, including housekeepers, butlers, chefs, drivers, and other support personnel.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and ongoing development of household staff.
  • Oversee the complete guest experience, including arrivals, departures, dinners, private entertaining, events, and special occasions.
  • Anticipate the needs and preferences of the family and their guests and ensure these are seamlessly incorporated into daily operations.
  • Develop a strong understanding of each residence and adapt service standards and operating procedures according to the property, season, and family requirements.
  • Maintain detailed household manuals, preference records, inventories, service standards, and operational documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with Personal Assistants, Property Managers, Family Office personnel, and other household professionals to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Take a hands-on approach and be willing to work alongside the household team when required.
  • Support the planning and execution of special events, private dinners, entertaining, and family functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service standards, efficiency, organisation, and the overall experience within the residences.
  • Remain flexible and responsive to changing priorities, last-minute requests, and the evolving needs of the family.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be someone who naturally operates at a very high level and understands that in a private household, the smallest details matter.

You will be:

  • Exceptionally detail-oriented, with a naturally refined eye for presentation and quality.
  • Highly organised, structured, and excellent at follow-through.
  • Energetic, positive, personable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A natural problem-solver who approaches challenges with a "how can we make this happen?" mentality.
  • Hands-on and willing to lead by example rather than simply delegate.
  • A confident people manager who knows how to establish high standards while maintaining a positive team culture.
  • Calm, composed, and professional when dealing with pressure or last-minute changes.
  • Highly discreet and trustworthy, with an absolute understanding of confidentiality within a private family environment.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working across different residences, schedules, and requirements.
  • Someone who takes genuine pride in creating an exceptional experience for principals and guests.
  • Looking for long-term stability and longevity rather than a short-term position.

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within luxury hospitality, private service, private estates, luxury hotels, private clubs, yachts, high-end concierge, fine dining, or a comparable environment.
  • Proven experience leading, training, and developing service teams.
  • Strong understanding of luxury service standards and guest experience.
  • Experience working with UHNW/HNW principals or within a high-level private environment is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and an eye for presentation.
  • Ability to anticipate requirements and operate proactively.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Verifiable professional references from comparable positions.
  • Complete discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.

Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a sophisticated private family office in a long-term capacity. The successful candidate will become an important part of the family's wider operation and will have the opportunity to establish and maintain exceptionally high standards across their residences.

The family is looking for someone who is committed, energetic, highly capable, and looking for longevity, with the personality and experience to become a trusted and valued member of the team.
