MUST BE LOCAL TO PALM BEACH

A private family in Palm Beach is seeking a talented, flexible, and service-oriented Sous Chef to join their fully staffed household and work closely alongside the family’s Head Chef. This is an excellent opportunity for a culinary professional who enjoys both cooking independently and working collaboratively within an established private household team. The Sous Chef will provide coverage for the Head Chef approximately two days per week and work alongside and support the Head Chef during the remaining three days. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable preparing complete meals independently, assisting with prep and shopping, maintaining an impeccably organized kitchen and pantry, and responding quickly to spontaneous requests from the principals and their guests.

The anticipated schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, with approximately 11:00 AM–8:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday and 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Friday through Sunday. Some flexibility will be required, particularly as the household establishes a rhythm around the principals’ Florida social calendar. The family intends to maintain a consistent schedule once the best flow is established.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent culinary coverage for the Head Chef approximately two days per week, including preparation and service of lunch and dinner
  • Work collaboratively with and support the Head Chef during the remainder of the week
  • Assist with grocery shopping, ingredient sourcing, kitchen provisioning, and other culinary errands
  • Prepare breakfast items such as omelets, toast, and other simple requests
  • Assist with food preparation, mise en place, and meal execution
  • Respond efficiently to spontaneous culinary requests, including smoothies, children’s meals, snacks, caviar service, and food for principals and guests
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and well-stocked kitchen and pantry
  • Monitor pantry and refrigerator inventory, including labeling, rotation, and expiration dates
  • Maintain clean and sanitary workstations throughout service
  • Assist with kitchen cleanup and proper storage of ingredients and prepared foods
  • Help ensure the kitchen remains prepared for changing schedules, entertaining, and last-minute requests
  • Communicate closely with the Head Chef regarding menus, inventory, preferences, and household needs
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with the household’s broader domestic staff
  • Maintain discretion and exceptional service standards at all times
  • Remain flexible as the household’s needs and social calendar evolve

Qualifications

  • Previous professional culinary experience; private household experience strongly preferred
  • Strong culinary fundamentals with the ability to independently prepare and execute lunch and dinner service
  • Comfortable working both independently and in a supporting Sous Chef capacity
  • Experience working alongside an Executive Chef or Head Chef preferred
  • Highly organized with strong kitchen, pantry, and inventory-management skills
  • Comfortable preparing a range of foods, from simple breakfasts and children’s meals to elevated meals and presentations for principals and guests
  • Able to respond quickly and calmly to last-minute requests and changing priorities
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working within a fully staffed private household
  • Proactive, hands-on, flexible, and willing to assist wherever needed
  • Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, proper storage, and kitchen organization
  • Polished, professional, discreet, and service-minded
  • Flexible regarding schedule adjustments based on the principals’ needs and social calendar
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Able to successfully complete a background check
