Description:
A sweet young rescue (pitbull, great pyranese, lab, german shepherd, bulldog mix) is looking for a dedicated Pet Nanny to become her steady daytime companion. She was born in Alabama on September 29, 2025 and is projected to reach 95 to 105 lbs at maturity. She is in active training and shows some reactivity. The family’s New York City apartment sits on a loud street corner, and the noise has made their dog afraid to go outside. They are looking for a Pet Nanny with hands-on experience handling reactive dogs, the patience to work through her fear of the street, and the physical capacity to manage a large breed on leash. The right Pet Nanny will be a patient presence as she grows in confidence and builds a bond with a consistent caregiver.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily walks in Morningside Park and Central Park
- Patient acclimation work to help the dog overcome her fear of the street
- Transportation to and attendance at local training sessions
- Vet appointments as needed
- Daytime care plus overnight stays at the Manhattan apartment when the family travels, including stretches of up to two weeks
- Reinforcement of training protocols between sessions
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Demonstrated experience with reactive and fearful dogs
- Physical capacity to handle a 95 to 105 lb dog on leash
- Comfortable with overnight stays and short stretches of travel
- Valid driver's license and confident driver (ideal, not required)
REQUIREMENTS
- Intent to make a long-term commitment to the role
- A calm, warm, and patient presence with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgment without supervision
- Physical capacity to handle a 95 to 105 lb dog on leash in a busy urban environment
- Comfort working alongside other household staff
Pet Experience (one or more of the following pathways)
- Three or more years of professional paid experience as a pet nanny, dog walker, or in a private household role (nanny, family assistant, household manager) where dedicated pet care was a core, ongoing responsibility
- Three or more years of professional experience as a veterinary technician, certified dog trainer, animal behaviorist, or comparable animal care professional
- A combination of the above
In addition, candidates must demonstrate:
- Hands-on experience with large breed dogs (70 lbs and above)
- Experience reinforcing or implementing professional training protocols at home
- Experience working with reactive or fearful dogs
Volunteer experience at an animal shelter or rescue is considered a meaningful addition to a candidate’s background.
Agency Requirements:
- Minimum age of 21
- Minimum of a high school diploma
- Willing to complete a criminal background check
- Three outstanding professional references who can speak directly to your experience
- Valid driver’s license preferred
