A private young family in the West Village is seeking an upbeat, warm, proactive, and hands-on Household Manager / Personal Assistant to help maintain a calm, organized, and well-run household.
This is a varied role combining household organization, light housekeeping and meal preparation, occasional backup childcare, errands, vendor coordination, calendar and appointment management, and occasional travel. The ideal candidate is a personable, organized, thoughtful professional who enjoys wearing many hats and takes pride in creating a well-run, welcoming home.
We are looking for someone who is self-directed and takes genuine ownership of their work—someone who notices what needs to be done and takes care of it without waiting to be asked. The right candidate is resourceful, reasonably tech-savvy, comfortable using AI tools to improve efficiency, and able to move seamlessly between administrative and household responsibilities throughout the day. They are warm, nurturing, and genuinely enjoy being around young children, who are an increasingly important part of our family life.
This is intended to be a long-term position for someone who values building a respectful, warm, and trusting professional relationship with a family. We hope to find someone who becomes a valued and integral part of our daily life and stays with our family for many years.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a base schedule of approximately 40 hours per week.
Approximately 30 hours per week will be on a regular, pre-set schedule at the family’s home. The remaining hours will be used flexibly to provide support as needed—for example, answering occasional questions or making phone calls outside of regular hours, assisting the family before and after trips, and occasionally traveling with the family.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of household organization and maintain a highly organized, orderly, and welcoming home
- Provide light daily housekeeping and upkeep; deep cleaning is handled by the family’s regular cleaner
- Manage family laundry, including washing, folding, putting away, and maintaining organized laundry systems
- Proactively identify areas of the home that need attention and restore order without waiting to be asked
- Maintain groceries, pantry items, household supplies, and inventories
- Assist with kitchen organization, grocery planning, and meal-related cleanup
- Prepare simple meals and assist with light meal preparation as needed
- Coordinate appointments, deliveries, repairs, and other individuals coming into the home
- Maintain a schedule of recurring household maintenance and manage relationships with household vendors
- Troubleshoot urgent household maintenance needs as they arise, including researching solutions, obtaining and comparing vendor quotes, and scheduling and overseeing repairs
- Manage routine car maintenance, including scheduling appointments and coordinating pick-up and return of the family car before and after trips
- Assist with packing and unpacking for family travel
- Handle personal errands and assist with a range of personal and administrative tasks, including scheduling dinner reservations and other appointments, submitting and tracking out-of-network insurance claims, making phone calls, and planning and booking travel itineraries
- Provide occasional backup childcare as needed; the family employs a full-time nanny
- As the role evolves, provide basic cat care, including feeding and maintaining the litter box
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a similar private-household role, such as Family Assistant, Personal Assistant, or Household Manager, ideally supporting a high-net-worth family. However, we are also open to candidates from other professional backgrounds who can demonstrate exceptional organizational, time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Proactive, resourceful, and naturally inclined to anticipate needs and solve problems
- Warm, nurturing, and comfortable caring for young children; while this is not primarily a childcare position, occasional backup childcare will be expected
- Comfortable with cats and willing to provide basic pet care as the role evolves
- Comfortable using technology and AI tools appropriately to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Discreet, trustworthy, reliable, and respectful of family privacy
- An excellent communicator who is comfortable interacting with vendors, service providers, and members of the family’s broader support network
- Able to work independently, exercise good judgment, and take ownership of responsibilities
- Able to provide a minimum of two excellent professional references
- A licensed driver
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Salary
- $110,000–$130,000 annual salary, depending on experience
