A private client in the San Francisco Bay Area is looking for an experienced and highly capable Handyman / Property Maintenance Specialist to take responsibility for the practical maintenance and upkeep of a private residence and its surrounding property.

This is a genuinely hands-on position rather than an administrative facilities management role. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems independently and taking ownership of a wide variety of household maintenance projects.

The role requires a broad practical skill set covering carpentry, general repairs, painting, basic plumbing and electrical work, outdoor maintenance, custom projects and vehicle care.

The ideal candidate will be resourceful, reliable and comfortable working to a high standard within a discreet private household environment.

Responsibilities

Property Maintenance & Repairs

The successful candidate will oversee a wide range of practical maintenance tasks, including:

  • Repairing drywall and sheetrock, filling holes and completing surface preparation.
  • Carrying out interior and exterior painting and touch-up work.
  • Repairing minor plumbing issues such as leaks, faucets, toilets and light blockages.
  • Replacing basic electrical fixtures, switches, outlets and dimmers where appropriate.
  • Installing and troubleshooting low-voltage lighting.
  • Mounting televisions and other household equipment.
  • Repairing doors, locks, hinges, handles and cabinet hardware.
  • Assembling premium indoor and outdoor furniture and equipment.
  • Identifying maintenance issues before they become larger problems.

Carpentry & Custom Projects

The role will also involve practical woodworking and small construction projects, such as:

  • Building custom storage solutions.
  • Constructing raised garden beds and outdoor structures.
  • Building or repairing play structures and other wooden amenities.
  • Creating practical solutions for the property based on the family’s requirements.
  • Maintaining decks, gates, fences and other timber features.
  • Repairing, staining and sealing exterior woodwork.

Grounds & Outdoor Property Care

The Handyman will assist with maintaining the property’s outdoor areas, including:

  • Supporting routine gardening and landscape maintenance.
  • Weeding and maintaining planting beds.
  • Trimming trees and shrubs as required.
  • Checking and repairing basic irrigation systems.
  • Maintaining patios, pathways, hardscaping and drainage areas.
  • Power washing exterior surfaces.
  • Cleaning gutters and preparing outdoor areas for different seasons.
  • Setting up and maintaining outdoor furniture and equipment.

Vehicle & Fleet Support

The successful candidate will also take responsibility for practical care and coordination of the household vehicles.

Duties include:

  • Scheduling routine servicing and inspections.
  • Coordinating tire rotations and oil changes.
  • Arranging professional detailing when required.
  • Ensuring vehicles are fuelled or charged and ready for use.
  • Monitoring EV charging requirements.
  • Carrying out simple repairs such as replacing wiper blades, bulbs and topping up fluids.
  • Keeping vehicles clean, safe and properly maintained.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Several years of professional experience in residential handyman work, carpentry, construction or multi-trade property maintenance.
  • Strong practical knowledge across multiple maintenance disciplines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose issues independently.
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to find practical solutions without constant supervision.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise competing maintenance requirements effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in the quality of their work.
  • A professional, respectful and discreet approach when working around a private family.
  • Clean and organised working habits.
  • The physical ability to lift equipment and materials, work on ladders and undertake outdoor maintenance in different weather conditions.
  • A valid California driver’s licence and clean driving record.
  • The ability to successfully complete a background check.
