Position: Director of Residences
Location: Stamford, Connecticut

Schedule: Full-time, flexibility required (50–60 hours/week, 24/7 mindset)
Compensation: $200,000 - $400,000 + health benefits
Overview
A superlative Director of Residences is sought for an exciting opportunity within a Family Office environment based in Stamford, Connecticut. The family maintains a growing portfolio including residences located in Southampton, Manhattan, Greenwich, Puerto Rico, and Florida. Several properties are currently under renovation or construction and will be completed on a rolling basis over the next approximately three years.
The Director of Residences will be responsible for the hands-on oversight, management, and long-term value preservation of each residence. This includes hiring and supervising staff across all locations (including Estate Managers and housekeeping teams), managing vendors and contractors, and ensuring all properties are meticulously maintained and operating seamlessly. The role requires a candidate who is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable traveling as needed to support the portfolio.
This is a highly collaborative, high-responsibility leadership role requiring discretion, flexibility, and a service-oriented mindset. The Director of Residences will serve as the central liaison between the principals, the Family Office, and all residences, and will report directly to the principals.
Important Note
This is not an Estate Manager position. The family is seeking a true Director-level candidate with experience overseeing multiple properties and managing senior staff, including Estate Managers. Candidates with only Estate Manager experience will not be considered at this time.
Key Responsibilities Property & Portfolio Oversight
- Oversee all residences, ensuring they are maintained to the highest standard and always guest-ready
- Ensure seamless day-to-day operations across all properties
- Maintain long-term value preservation of each residence
- Conduct regular property visits and assessments
Staff & Leadership
- Hire, manage, and oversee household staff across all locations, including Estate Managers
- Lead, mentor, and develop teams to ensure the highest level of service and performance
- Oversee staff scheduling, performance management, and compensation
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Source, vet, and manage vendors, contractors, and service providers
- Negotiate contracts to ensure quality service and cost efficiency
- Build and maintain long-term vendor relationships
Project & Construction Oversight
- Oversee multiple renovation and construction projects across the portfolio
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards
- Make strategic recommendations regarding capital improvements and repairs
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Manage budgets across all properties, ensuring financial efficiency
- Monitor expenses, approve invoices, and maintain accurate financial records
- Ensure cost control while maintaining exceptional standards
Principal & Family Office Liaison
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the principals, Family Office, and residences
- Represent principals’ preferences and expectations across all properties
- Provide proactive updates and relieve principals of operational oversight
Compliance & Systems Management
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee insurance policies and risk management
- Develop, implement, and maintain household systems and manuals
- Maintain detailed documentation, including maintenance logs, contracts, and inventories
Maintenance & Operations
- Ensure all properties are fully operational, including HVAC, landscaping, security, and home systems
- Address maintenance issues promptly, including emergency situations
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs to ensure long-term efficiency
Requirements
- 20+ years of experience managing private estates
- Proven experience as a Director of Residences (or equivalent senior leadership role)
- Demonstrated experience overseeing Estate Managers and multi-property teams
- Extensive experience supporting UHNW families with multiple residences
- Strong leadership and management skills
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and emotional intelligence
- Strong communication skills with the ability to anticipate needs
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Strategic and analytical mindset
- Tech-savvy (Google Suite, MS Office, Adobe, home automation systems)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Additional Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of both property management (HVAC, landscaping, maintenance systems) and hospitality standards
- Construction or renovation experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively and bring out the best in staff
- Discretion and confidentiality are non-negotiable (NDA required)
