Executive Personal Assistant to Man with Chronic Illness

We are seeking a highly skilled and deeply compassionate professional to serve as an Executive Assistant for a private individual living with a serious illness ME/CFS (basic information can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/me-cfs/about/index.html) . This role is more than household or estate management; it requires someone who can combine the organizational mastery of a traditional English butler with the emotional intelligence of a trusted confidant and the resourcefulness of a life concierge.

The successful candidate will be devoted, discreet, and adaptable—able to anticipate needs, maintain calm in moments of emotional difficulty, and create a harmonious environment.

20-30 hours per week

Because the client is ill, as much work as possible will be performed remotely (e.g. phone calls, electronic communications, planning) with presence on site devoted to personal communication with the client, supervising contractors or service people, and handling necessary in person administrative activities.  This is a newly created position and requires that the candidate have the capability and patience to work with the client to design needed systems and structure.

Key Responsibilities:

Life & Household Management

  • Oversee daily life logistics, schedules, and household functions.
  • Vet, hire, and manage vendors, contractors, and staff as needed
  • Handle appointments, phone calls, and correspondence as needed.
  • Establish record keeping and administrative systems.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between medical providers, family, and trusted contacts.

Client Support & Well-being

  • Provide patient, thoughtful communication with an employer who is medically and emotionally vulnerable.
  • Have a naturally quiet and unobtrusive presence.
  • Offer companionship with warmth, respect, and sensitivity.
  • Assist in identifying and fostering meaningful social connections that the client can tolerate and enjoy.

Advocacy & Resource Navigation

  • Deeply understand the client’s illness, limitations, and capacities.
  • Liaise with medical professionals and care providers when needed.
  • Advocate and negotiate for client when needed.
  • Anticipate challenges and propose creative, compassionate solutions.

Professional Standards

  • Uphold absolute discretion, confidentiality, and loyalty.
  • Bring the highest level of organization, service ethos, and ethical integrity.

Qualifications

  • Background in estate management, butler service, private PA/life concierge roles, or luxury hospitality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with emotionally sensitive individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex logistics calmly and effectively.
  • Grace under pressure; patient, kind, and adaptable personality.
  • Experience in private service for HNW clients preferred.
  • High competence with technology appreciated.

Compensation & Terms

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.  Range is $50 – $70 per hour.
  • Live-out with future potential for live in.
  • Long-term role with the opportunity to become a trusted and integral presence in the client’s life.

How to Apply

  • Please provide a detailed CV and a cover letter describing your relevant experience, service philosophy, and examples of how you have combined organizational leadership with compassionate personal support. References will be required.
  • Note that your first contacts will be with a family member. Only the most qualified contacts will be referred on for an interview with the client.
