A superlative Director of Residences based in Stamford, Connecticut is sought for an exciting opportunity within a Family Office environment. The family maintains a growing portfolio of residences located in Southampton, Manhattan, Greenwich, Puerto Rico, and Florida. This role will oversee all properties, with the understanding that several are currently under renovation or construction and will be completed on a rolling basis over the next approximately three years.

The Director of Residences will be responsible for the hands-on oversight, management, and long-term value preservation of each residence. This includes hiring and supervising staff at each location (e.g., housekeepers), managing vendors and contractors, and ensuring all properties are meticulously maintained and operating seamlessly. The role requires a candidate who is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable traveling as needed to support the properties.

This is a collaborative, high-responsibility position that operates with a 24/7 mindset and requires flexibility, discretion, and a service-oriented personality. Typical work hours are expected to range between 50–60 hours per week. The Director of Residences will work primarily out of the Family Office and serve as the central liaison between the principals, the office, and all residences. The role reports directly to the principals.

 


Requirements

  • Strong management and leadership skills

  • Prior experience supporting UHNW families, particularly with oversight of multiple residences

  • Exceptional discretion, professionalism, and emotional intelligence

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to anticipate needs

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Tech-savvy (Google Suite, MS Office, Adobe, home operations/automation software, etc.)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strategic and analytical mindset

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Proficiency in both property management (e.g., landscaping, HVAC, maintenance) and hospitality (e.g., ensuring homes are fully stocked and prepared for the family’s arrival)

  • Construction or renovation experience is welcomed

  • Ability to work collaboratively and bring out the best in staff

  • Discretion and confidentiality are non-negotiable (NDA required)


Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary bridge between the principals and their multiple residences, ensuring all properties meet the highest standards of excellence

  • Oversee the financial stability and operational efficiency of all properties, managing essential expenses judiciously while curtailing unnecessary costs

  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with service providers, contractors, and vendors, leveraging strong market knowledge and negotiation skills

  • Build and maintain long-term, trusted relationships with contractors including handymen, landscapers, and specialty vendors

  • Represent the principals effectively, ensuring their preferences and expectations are clearly communicated to staff and third parties

  • When authorized, make critical operational and strategic decisions on behalf of the principals, ranging from daily operations to major repairs and renovations

  • Address maintenance issues promptly, including routine repairs and emergency situations

  • Maintain thorough recordkeeping, including invoices, expense tracking, and documentation required for tax reporting and audits

  • Ensure all routine maintenance and repairs are completed on schedule to preserve property condition and value

  • Oversee legal and regulatory compliance, including zoning, insurance policies, and local/state/federal requirements

  • Strategically develop, document, and maintain comprehensive household systems and manuals, creating clarity through proactive, step-by-step solutions

  • Relieve principals of operational oversight by proactively managing tasks and providing regular status updates

  • Hire, manage, and oversee household staff, including compensation and performance

  • Manage staff scheduling and calendaring across multiple residences
