Position Title: Housekeeper
Reports To: Lead Housekeeper
Schedule: Full-Time; Long Summer Hours with Limited Time Off (May–September)
Location: Shelter Island, NY
Compensation: $35 to $40 per hour plus $25 per day for lunch, fully covered medical, dental and vision insurance, 401K, annual bonus, and PTO
Position Overview
The Housekeeper is responsible for the year-round care, cleanliness, and presentation of multiple residences on a large private estate. This role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in maintaining impeccable standards of cleanliness, organization, and hospitality. The ideal candidate is proactive, dependable, and able to work collaboratively with other departments while supporting the needs of the principal and guests.
Primary Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Interior Care & Housekeeping
- Perform daily housekeeping, deep cleaning, and detailed interior care of multiple homes year-round
- Conduct daily interior walkthroughs to assess cleanliness, organization, and overall condition
- Launder clothing, linens, and household textiles; press or steam as needed
- Prepare homes for owner and guest arrivals, ensuring a pristine and welcoming environment
- Receive, unpack, and properly set up new household items, furnishings, and supplies
- Provide daily exterior care, including maintaining entryways, walkways, patios, and outdoor living spaces
Inventory, Shopping & Errands:
- Procure household supplies and maintain accurate inventories of consumable goods, including food and fresh items
- Perform shopping and errands as required, including “off-island” travel
- Ensure supplies are well-stocked, rotated, and stored appropriately
Property Systems & Maintenance Coordination
- Perform daily checks of appliances, fixtures, and household systems and properly escalate to facilities for preventative maintenance
Communication & Teamwork
- Communicate clearly and regularly with the housekeeping team and other departments on daily tasks, schedules, and projects
- Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and teamwork at all times

- Valid U.S. work authorization required
Work Environment & Expectations
- Position involves physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Long hours are expected during peak summer months (May–September), with limited time off
- Must be flexible and adaptable to changing schedules, guest needs, and estate priorities
