FULL-TIME FAMILY ASSISTANT / NANNY (LIVE-IN OR LIVE-OUT) | PRIVATE FAMILY
Location: Long Grove, IL
Schedule: Full-time, typically 40–45+ hours per week (5 days/week, including Saturday)
Live-In Option: Available (private bedroom + ensuite bathroom provided)
Overview
A private family is seeking a highly capable, full-time Family Assistant / Nanny to support both childcare and the overall flow of the home. This is a dynamic, all-encompassing role best suited for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and takes pride in being a true partner in the household.
The mother is home during the day and very hands on, and the father works from home, with a toddler present. The role involves working closely with the mother, and the ideal candidate is comfortable balancing autonomy with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
At this point in time the family assistant portion of the role is about 60-70% and nanny 30-40%. This is something that will be fluctuating depending on things happening in life.

Schedule & Flexibility
- Typically 5 days per week, including Saturday as a regular working day
- 40–45 hours per week, depending on scheduling needs
- Flexibility is essential for this role
- Schedule may include occasional early mornings, evenings, or adjustments with advance notice
- Openness to additional hours as needed
Travel & Overnights
- Occasional local overnights required
- Domestic and occasional international travel (approx. 4–8 trips/year)
Please note:
- Thanksgiving is a regular travel/work period each year
- Additional travel may include extended stays and holiday periods
During travel:
- Approximately 40–55+ hours/week, typically 6 days/week
- Responsibilities include childcare, light housekeeping, laundry, general family support and cooking (if person likes to cook).
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities (Daily / Ongoing)
- Support the day-to-day operations and overall flow of the household and principals
- Assist with the daily running of the household and principals’ needs
- Run household and personal errands (returns, shopping, general tasks)
- Receive, open, and organize packages and deliveries
- Coordinate with household staff (housekeeper) to support daily operations
- Communicate with vendors (scheduling, access, coordination, and follow-up)
- Maintain general household organization and systems
- Assist with scheduling and managing appointments (as part of ongoing household needs)
- Assist principals with administrative tasks and day-to-day support
- Assist with kitchen upkeep and laundry
- Step in to support broader household needs as they arise
- Assist with pet care (daily needs such as letting out, walks, feeding)
Occasional / As-Needed Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, organizing, and executing events and gatherings
- Support travel planning and coordination
- Pack and unpack for travel
- Drive principals when needed
- Conduct or lead research projects
- Assist with home and personal organization projects:
- Closet edits, wardrobe organization, donations
- Photo printing, framing, hanging
- Creating photo albums or keepsakes
- Coordinate more involved vendor projects (home maintenance, larger services, etc.)
- Assist with pet-related logistics (vet visits, grooming appointments)
- Assist with car maintenance (washing, fueling, scheduling service appointments)
Childcare Responsibilities
- Create a safe, secure, and nurturing environment at all times, prioritizing the child’s physical safety, emotional wellbeing, and overall development
- Provide attentive, loving, and developmentally appropriate care
- Support the child’s daily routines, including:
- Diapering and potty training
- Meals and snacks
- Naps and bathing
- Plan and engage in age-appropriate activities (reading, outdoor play, walks, arts & crafts, music, puzzles, imaginative play, etc.)
- Support early learning and development (letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and other foundational skills)
- Foster emotional regulation, independence, and positive behavior through calm, consistent, and kind boundaries
- Maintain a low-screen environment (very limited TV; no additional screen time)
- Encourage curiosity, creativity, and exploration through play and real-world experiences
- Create a joyful, engaging, and positive environment where the child feels supported and secure
Future Family Growth / Infant Care
- Provide attentive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for a newborn/infant, maintaining a safe, calm, and supportive environment
- Ensure the infant’s safety, comfort, and overall wellbeing at all times through attentive and thoughtful care
- Support feeding routines, including:
- Bottle preparation and feedings (breast milk and/or formula)
- Washing and sanitizing bottles and breast pump parts
- Assist with diapering, frequent changes, and general hygiene
- Support healthy sleep routines, including naps and establishing age-appropriate schedules
- Engage in age-appropriate developmental activities (tummy time, sensory play, early stimulation)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of nursery, feeding items, and baby-related supplies
- Support a smooth transition to caring for multiple children
- Work collaboratively with parents to maintain consistency in routines and caregiving approach
- Foster a calm, nurturing, and responsive environment

Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in private homes
- Experience in nanny + assistant preferred
- Strong infant and toddler experience required
- Prior travel experience preferred
- Fluent in English; strong communication skills
- Tech-savvy and comfortable with scheduling and research
- Valid driver’s license with clean record; confident driver
- Strong swimmer preferred
- Strong home-cooking skills and wanting to cook prefered not required
